Born in Paris in 1962 from Spanish parents, Vincent CORTES graduated in Architecture and Urban Planning from the Paris ECOLE DES BEAUX-ARTS in 1986, and was awarded that same year an ARTHUR SACHS Scholarship for a post-graduate degree at HARVARD UNIVESITY where he graduated with a Masters in Architecture II in 1988.
His stay in the US was extended for practical training thus working with the Spanish Professor Rafael MONEO, on the Miro museum, and the Sevilla Airport. From there on he moved to New York where he worked until 1990 as Project Architect with the firm PEI, COBB, FREED and Partners. During this period, he was in charge of the design and development of the rotunda of inter-terminal stations at JFK International Airport.
Before returning to Europe, he traveled to the Middle-East, where he won his first architectural competition, an office complex in Amman. This project was interrupted at construction start by the 1990 Gulf crisis.
Back in Paris, after becoming Consulting Architect in 1993, he designed and developed, several built projects and competition entries, such as the CARRE SENART Retail Center and the ASTRA FRANCE Headquarters Building in Rueil near Paris, -a project which was awarded a Prize for Architectural Achievement in 1999 by the American Institute of Architects-. In association with the VIGUIER firm.
In 2000, he opened his own firm, C.A CORTES ARCHITECTURES, and developed urban design projects: OCT Urban District Projects, 500 ha in SHENZHEN, China, (winner of an International Competition), and the CHATEAU DE FRANCE Urban District in Noisy, near Paris. He also designed, in partnership with Juan TRINDADE architectural projects, including the UNILEVER LEAF TEA Institute in Rueil, a SPORTS CENTER in La Défense for UNIBAIL, as well as projects for RENAULT.
In addition, he developed a teaching activity in architectural design, at GEORGIA TECH (Atlanta- Paris), as well as a seminar on Urban Design at the ESSEC Business School. These activities led him to take part, under the umbrella of the French Ministry of Urban Development, in a thinktank in charge of elaborating new strategies for urban renewal.
